The nation’s largest expo & convention for anime & manga returns to Downtown LA this 4th of July weekend. Complete with hundreds of artist & vendor booths, this convention allows attendees to get interactive via the masquerade ball, music videos, concerts, battle of the bands, fashion shows, dancing, video games, karaoke, cosplay gatherings & contests, and much more. Admission varies by the number of days attending – 4 days cost $90, while one day costs $55. Children 6-12 get in for a flat rate of $25, while children 5 and under get in free with a paid adult admission. Some of the special events, such as concerts and maid cafés, requires an additional ticket to get into. Parking at the convention center costs $20, so bring cash for that plus any of the vendors and food inside the convention center. Optionally, park in outdoor third party lots in the surrounding blocks for a lower rate, or take public transportation.

SoCal Corgi Beach Day

Corgi lovers and Corgi owners unite this Saturday afternoon for a dog day at the beach, free to attend and for all ages. Share your love of this wonderful breed by showing off your adorable companion or by showing love for someone else’s adorable companion.

Pirate Invasion of Long Beach

Come see and act like pirates at the beach! Visitors may choose to dress as a pirate or arrive in normal clothes. Many others will fully dress up to play their parts. Expect to see pirate shows, vendors, music, a (mock) ship fight, and cannon blank shots fired at the pier. This FREE and all-ages event runs on Saturday & Sunday starting at 10am both days. If you plan to stay for a while, note that this takes place entirely outdoors, so have sunscreen available. Have cash available for nearby parking.

Red, White & BBQ

Munch on barbecue and sip on booze this Saturday in Los Angeles. Two sessions of this food & drink fest will occur this Saturday: 12pm-2:30pm and 3pm-5:30pm. General admission costs $25 per person but starts half an hour after each session starts. VIP admission costs 35 and starts right when the session starts, so you get an extra half hour for $10. No one under 21 may attend.

The Rarest Experience Beer Festival

A rare beer fest comes to Hollywood this Saturday afternoon. General admission costs $40 and starts at 2pm, while VIP admission costs $60 and starts at 1pm. All attendees receive unlimited beer pours while supplies last. No one under 21 may attend. Bring cash for parking and food.

Dry River Brewing Grand Opening

A new brewery near Downtown LA will officially open their doors to the public this weekend. $15 gets you in to one of six 90-minute sessions this weekend where you can enjoy two beer pours during that time. Attendees have the option of purchasing more beers beyond the initial two. No one under 21 may attend.

Chinatown Summer Nights

Have a fun time this summer at Chinatown in Downtown Los Angeles. Free to attend for all ages, this nighttime festival brings together food, music, art, and beer in a multicultural setting. Expect to see food trucks, merchandise, arts & crafts, live music, live DJ’s, a dance floor, a beer garden hosted by Eagle Rock Brewery, and more. Guests can find free street parking on Spring St and the side streets connected to Spring, including College St.
