A little bit of inclement weather will not bog down the fun people will have at the local city or state fair. Despite some inauspicious weather, the 2nd Annual OC Brew Hee Haw craft beer festival returned to the Orange County Fair & Event Center this past weekend. This weekend-long beer tasting event took place on the opening weekend of the 2015 OC Fair this past weekend, and covered a large span of the weekend with three different beer tasting sessions that each lasted four hours. All attendees to the OC Brew Hee Haw received UNLIMITED beer tasters, as well as admission to the fairgrounds for that day. The actual Brew Hee Haw area did not contain much else to do besides get beer, as the small space only allowed for just drinking. A small stage allowed a DJ to set up, as well as host speakers to talk about beer and beer pairings. Attendees could still wander about the fair, but could not bring beer outside of the event area.
The OC Brew Ha Ha Productions crew has taken some of the cues from last year’s festival, and vastly improved it. Changes from last year include reducing the sessions from four to three, allowing unlimited beer tasters, and providing more space in the event area by eliminating unnecessary objects. Many of last year’s problems also got resolved by the start of the festival, either by Brew Ha Ha or by the OC Fair. Attendees parking at the free off-site parking structure took a shuttle that dropped them off right at the gate leading to the Brew Hee Haw. For attendees who entered through a different gate, signs all over the fair pointed out the directions to Brew Hee Haw. If anything, the only thing that rained on this parade involved the rain itself. Due to the rain, attendees did not go to the outdoor portion at the back of the event area, so everyone crammed inside, making for a tight event space. The attendees did not seem to mind this – if anything, it made people get closer and make new friends. I mean, just look at all these people – they look like they had a great time!
If you missed out on the Brew Hee Haw, fret not. The one that started them all, OC Brew Ha Ha, returns for its sixth installment on Saturday, September 12th, back at Oak Canyon Park in Irvine. Tickets have already gone on sale for $45 general admission or $60 for entry an hour earlier. All visitors gain access to UNLIMITED beer tastings for the duration of the event from over 80 breweries serving over 170 different beers. Expect to find plenty of food trucks, other food vendors, free soft drinks, merchandise booths, beer industry speakers, games, and more, which includes live music.
