When consumers go shopping for anything, they always know prior how many people to shop for. More often than not, when people shop for apparel, they shop for one person – themselves. When people shop for food, they can shop for as little as one person up to as many as an entire business. Based on this, a consumer must gauge how much to purchase. Purchasing for one or a few comes with convenience, but tend to come with a higher price per volume. Purchasing in bulk comes with bulk discounts, such as buying a 24-pack of soft drinks versus a six-pack. But what about those times where you only get one size? Some pizza places will serve their pizzas in varying sizes from small to extra large, but in the end, most pizzas still contain multiple servings. For those times when you crave pizza but just want enough for one serving, satisfy that craving with this single-serve pepperoni pizza.

A pizza can take on many forms, with varieties in the crust, sauce, cheese, and toppings. You can pick and choose whichever you like, but essentially, you need four main ingredients:

  • Base – I use Whole Wheat English Muffins (pictured above). Feel free to use sliced bread (pictured below), bagels (beware the center hole), waffles, or gluten-free variants of any of these.
  • Sauce – Use any thick Italian tomato sauce so that it does not seep through the bread, and spread it evenly on the base. For bolder flavor, use BBQ sauce. For an herbed flavor, use pesto sauce. For a lighter flavor, use olive oil.
  • Cheese – Grate the cheese of your choice, and spread evenly on top of the sauce. I use English Cheddar. Feel free to experiment with different cheeses, such as mozzarella, parmesan, feta, goat, and more.
  • Toppings – You can buy sliced Pepperoni at the deli counter in your local grocery store. Chop a slice into smaller pieces to evenly distribute over the pizza. Other toppings can go right on top. If you use ground meat, add that before the cheese to create a meat sauce.

Prior to preparing the ingredients, place a baking sheet or pan in your oven, and preheat the oven to 400°F. For a snack, one slice of bread, or one half of an English muffin or bagel or whatever, will suffice. For a meal, double that up. Start with your base, layer on the sauce, grate the cheese over it, and add the toppings. Once oven reaches 400°F, place your pizza(s) on the baking sheet and bake for five minutes, then broil it for five more minutes. Once the pizza(s) finishes baking, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool for about two minutes, then enjoy your fresh homemade single-serve pizza!
