Ever consider Downtown Long Beach a dining destination? Many people, both local and visiting, tend to avoid Downtown Long Beach due to the lack of parking, excess pedestrians, and dangers lurking in the dark alleys. Businesses cycle in and out of Downtown Long Beach quite often because of this, giving potential entrepreneurs a difficult barrier to entry in this area. The Downtown Long Beach Association has taken steps to improve the quality of life in downtown, from introducing new businesses to making the streets more people-friendly. In order to entice people to visit more often, events like Second Saturdays and various music shows draw in good crowds. To retain the business of the people, the association has focused on the food of Downtown Long Beach, and some food events allow guests to explore the menus available.

The Taste of Downtown Long Beach occurred last week on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Free to attend for all ages, numerous businesses in Downtown Long Beach set up booths in the East Village Arts District to serve food & drinks to guests who purchased food tickets. Guests could purchase 12 tickets for $10 online, or one ticket for $1 each at the event. Typically, most attending businesses will occupy a booth, but because of the cold weather, many businesses chose to remain in their buildings while still honoring tickets any guest may possess. In addition to all the food, local bands played music throughout the night, and local artists and vendors set up to sell their merchandise and other work.

Missed out on this food fest? The Downtown Long Beach Association will host the taste once again in early June and late August. For a simple method to sample what Downtown Long Beach has to offer, you do not want to miss the next taste or two.

Want to dine in Downtown Long Beach tonight, but stumped on where to go? Go on a food adventure! Combine a pub crawl with restaurants instead of bars, and you get Dishcrawl, which debuts tonight in Downtown Long Beach. For $45 a person, diners gain access to prix-fixe meals at four restaurants that your guide will reveal tonight. Upon purchasing a ticket, you will receive an e-mail that details where to meet and when. If you do go, arrive with an empty stomach – as long as you have the time for this, you will receive more food than the cost of the ticket. Dress for the cold weather, as the crawl takes place at night. If you cannot make it tonight, send them an e-mail stating that you want them to return on a future date.
