Downtown Pomona receives their fair share of events and festivals throughout the year. From parades to art walks, one can always find something happening in Downtown Pomona. Even without any special events, Downtown Pomona represents an underrated destination, as one can find some fantastic restaurants, cool local shops, and some great concert venues. All of that came together this past Saturday at the Global Flavor Fest 2018. The Global Flavor Fest represents a food & drink tasting event where attendees could sample foods from various different cuisines, as well as enjoy beer and wine. Guests pay the admission to receive up to four hours of unlimited food and drink samples while supplies lasted. This all sounds fantastic… if the event had an ample amount of vendors. It appears that the event missed the mark on both ends – it contained a poor amount of vendors, and it attracted a low amount of guests. Hanging around outdoors in the hot California sun, attendees found no more than three hot food vendors. All other vendors had food for sale, which contradicts the event’s claim that admission would include food. Alcoholic drinks aside, attendees also had to pay for any non-alcoholic drinks. The vendors provided plenty of beer and wine, but for a tasting event like this in a hot setting, attendees need non-alcoholic selections. The first impression would leave many underwhelmed… until discovering the indoor portion of the event. While the main event takes place in the plaza area, the event extends over to the buildings, which included entry into The Rookery Alehouse, another participant in the event. Not only did The Rookery provide food AND beer to all event attendees, but they provided proper seating and restrooms. If the rest of the event operated like this, I believe most of the attendees would have enjoyed the overall experience. Personally, I spent over half my time at the event inside The Rookery.

If this event comes back next year, they have lots of room to improve. They can certainly invite more vendors, and they can indeed market to a greater audience. I would love to see this event return with even more food vendors for more types of cuisines.

When one claims the best of anything, people quickly speculate that claim as hogwash. For example, if a product claims to work ten times better than the leading brand, then why does that product not lead the market? Do the testimonials prove anything else, or do the testimonials get bought? The 9th Annual Orange County Brew Ha Ha returned to Silverado this past Saturday up the way at Lakeview Park, living up to its proclamation as “Southern California’s BEST Beer Festival!” Featuring over 90 breweries, a dozen food vendors, FREE sodas, live music, games, and more, I assure you that no other beer fest in the history of Orange County lives up to the proportions of the crew behind the Brew Ha Ha series of events.

The massive venue area contributes the most to the success of the OC Brew Ha Ha. Despite the incredulously long VIP line, guests began entering five minutes prior to the fest’s start time. Fortunately, all volunteers and brewery staff knew not to pour until the time began. Upon entering, one can quickly feel overwhelmed trying to figure out where to find what. Lakeview Park has much to explore, and OC Brew Ha Ha used a much larger space than previous events to accommodate for the increased number of breweries in attendance.

With a vast venue, plenty of vendors, a variety of beer & food, entertainment, and more, time flies by for any guest at OC Brew Ha Ha. The average consumer cannot possibly experience everything within the allotted four hours. Like a typical weekend vacation, guests would require more than a few days to experience it all. Luckily, the Brew Ha Ha team organizes multiple events throughout the year, including some events that do not fall under the same naming convention, such as Sabroso Taco Fest, Ye Scallywag, and Driftwood Festival. In addition, the team will bring back their signature beer fest in December under the moniker OC Brew Ho Ho, so if you need your beer fix, keep this in mind when December rolls around. No other beer fest in Orange County can top OC Brew Ha Ha, because it triumphs over all.

After six years of posting about upcoming events, I have decided to focus my energy elsewhere. I will continue to post reviews for food, events, businesses, and more as I discover them. These past six years have opened my eyes to a diverse mix of cultures and interests, and I will continue to expand my scope of discovering the new and interesting.
